Months of Decluttering

The past couple of months has been months of decluttering for me. When I am home alone, that is what you will find me doing for most of the time; decluttering, cleaning, and tidying. As my family could not come back from their travels due to the current global pandemic, I had the house all to myself since March 2020. And as an introvert and someone who prefers my space to be organized and calm, I really enjoyed the alone time, though of course after a long while I do miss my family and all the hustle and bustle of the house.

Finding myself all alone at home, I took on the opportunity to declutter, organize, and do a little renovation. For the past couple of months, that is what I have been doing - painting the house, taking out clutter, sorting out the storage rooms, books, and kitchen pantries. That kept me quite busy, but its something that I truly enjoyed doing.

I don’t know what exactly it is that I love about tidying, decluttering, and organizing things. Perhaps it's my OCD that I just have that urge to make everything fit in its place. But I know that going through that process of tidying, decluttering, and organizing helps me gain mental clarity where I can see things much clearer. It's like a form of meditation for me.

I have also spent time decluttering my digital space, going through my photos and organizing them, and enjoying reliving memories through the process, letting go of apps and programs that I just don’t need to have anymore, and also taking the time to reflect what projects and tasks I should focus on, and let go of the rest, as something I struggle with is taking on more than I should.

Another project I have been working on is helping my client organize and sort through 3 years worth of text messages. Lots of text messages to sort through, but using Airtable as a system makes it much more doable. If you are not already aware of what Airtable is, it is a very powerful data management tool to organize almost anything you imagine.

So basically these past couple of months has been months of decluttering, organizing, and sorting things. And I feel everyone should spend time doing so regularly in their life as it helps us to pause -  to see where we were, where we are at, and where we are going. To be able to clear out physical, digital, or mental clutter that has been taking up space, energy, and resources, and also be able to see a pattern or notice things that otherwise we wouldn’t have. And overall it allows us the space to start anew, a refresh.
